If you know anything about Olympic Weightlifting, you know that EVERYONE has an opinion on something. Whether it be about “Strength vs Technique” or just about “Technique”, you’ll find many Weightlifters and Coaches alike argue amongst each other. This clearly makes learning about the sport very confusing.
With all that said, I believe most Weightlifters and Coaches can agree that the below “rules” are crucial to the sport NO matter what your view on technique is or where your strength is.
- Keep the bar nice and tight to the body.
- Don’t over pull the bar.
- If your lifts are stronger or close to your max squat, you need to develop more leg strength.
- If your squat is significantly higher than your clean, you may need to focus more on positioning.
- If you’re injured there’s still ways you can increase your proficiency through auxiliary movements (pulls, squats, hangs, etc…).
Hope this is helpful,
