When I talk about warm ups a lot of people roll their eyes and think a warm up is this sissy waste of time movement. It’s obviously more glamorous to hit heavy weights, scream, puff your chest up and blah blah blah.
“You got to be good before you’re great”
I’ve talked about this before (click HERE) but it can’t be overstated. Everyone is always looking at the success and glory of lifters post years of grueling training, thanks to the YouTube generation we complete overlook this. It’s rare to find a weightlifter that respects the warm up and the boring stuff like various technique drills. Light weight positioning drills are just not glamorous, who wants to watch a video of that, right? I get it but I don’t care 🙂 If you want to be a great Weightlifter you need to be good FIRST and to do so that means you need to FOCUS!
I can’t stand when Weightlifters are fail to focus during the warm up. The warm up is the time to nail down all the position for carryover to the work sets. You don’t want to get to the work sets and start to try to focus on your positions then, at that point it’s too little too late. Mind you, this is really focused on novice lifters but it still can hold true for veterans too.
While this post may seem repetitive or mundane, its a small action that will have great carry over to your training, so focus on your movements and stop bullshitting around 😉
Train smart,
Team Fusion Weightlifting
