Olympic weightlifting is a very easy sport to gain access to, all you need is a bar and plates. It’ll be ideal to have qualified weightlifting coach too but never the less you don’t need much. Sadly, in my opinion, many people over step their boundaries on what they believe they can do without ANY qualifications to do so. While of course there are exceptions to the rule to each but I still believe this can be useful. Here’s part 1:
Earn the Right to Lift Heavy
Everyone wants to be strong, cut up, swole etc… the problem I see is that everyone WANTS it but not many are willing to WORK for it. Weightlifting requires you to be technically efficient in the lifts, strong in the lifts, and strong in your general strength movements (squats, press, pull). This takes a LOT of time, patience, and determination. Unfortunately many novice lifters watch a youtube video, read a quote, and boom “MAX lifting is THE only way to lift”. I’ve said this before but it can’t be over stated, just because you see it on YouTube doesn’t mean you’re qualified to do so! The top lifters are at the top for MANY reasons from genetic potential, proper physical preparation, frequency of training, etc…
Lifting heavy without proper preparation, in my opinion means nothing if you have shit positions. All it will lead to is injury, misses, and reinforcing bad habits = VERY hard to break. To EARN the right to lift heavy means to develop strength in specific joint angles and a strong understanding of positioning (technique) that’ll allow you to lift efficiently in the future. It takes time and it can be a very frustrating process but this is what a dedicated weightlifter goes through. This is where, imo, the lifter develops the mental fortitude to become a successful weightlifter.
Stay strong,
