It’s been a little bit since we’ve gone over some of the “Unwritten Rules of Weightlifting”, if you haven’t read them yet here are the previous ones:
No matter what, there are always going to be people that do stupid shit. Even if the rules are in their damn face…BUT this is my attempt to help fix the issues I’ve have been seeing, whether if it works or not is yet to be seen…
So let’s jump into it
Plate Usage
In our facility we are short on bumper plates, so we try to keep the bumper plates for the lifts. Unfortunately I see people using the bumper plates to squat or to increase the box height, when they could just use regular poundage plates…as for the box height, let’s be real here, just jump higher, you don’t need to jump on a 50″ box into a rock bottom squat, we all know that it’s not about how high you can bring your knees to your chest….moving on
Respect the Bar
I mentioned this is in “Unwritten Rules of Weightlifting Part Deux” but outside of just not squatting or putting the bar on the rack, I’ve seen guys just drop an empty bar right on the floor from the top position? Really, are you that much of a jackass?
Just put it down like a regular person you meatball.
Youtube Expert
I’ve posted about the “Youtubers” before but I’m still surprised how many lifters engorge themselves with youtube videos instead of just going to a qualified Coach. Secondly they spend too much time “researching”, I feel like an old man saying this but stop sitting on your ass and go out and lift, too many people spend more time on the internet looking for the Holy grail of technique and programming that the practical aspects of lifting is thrown out the window.
I’ll stop here before I turn into Andy Rooney…
