There’s a huge infatuation with how the Chinese lifters are training in the Weightlifting Community. I completely understand, since they DOMINATE our sport, to put it lightly….
But with that said, I believe we need to take a step back and realize that China is a BIG country and to merely state, the “Chinese Philosophy” makes as much sense as me saying the “US Weightlifting Philosophy”. We have various coaching styles across the states, from Coach Zygmunt Smalcerz, to John Broz, to Mike Conroy, all varying Coaching styles in a country where Weightlifting is categorized with Powerlifting to most Americans… Now take China and think how popular Weightlifting is there and the many provinces they have, it’ll create a vast range of Coaching styles.
While, I understand that within the main schools it maybe a bit more systematic. I guess my long winded point is that we need to stop glorifying other countries and maybe put more focus on our young USA-W athletes. These guys will help keep the sport alive and will hopefully help us regain the popularity we had in the old days. Also as I said in the earlier post, we need to learn to stick with the game plan, some guys seeing a new shiny program and they just jump right on it…don’t be that guy.
