The great thing about fitness is that there are many paths to succes, some shorter, longer, easier, etc… I’ve found that the key to success is to find a path and stick with it. For the novice Olympic Weightlifter this rings 100% true, too many jump into this field looking for the holy grail of programming. When I first started Weightlifting I did the exact same thing, looking for what Dimas, Zhang, or what the Bulgarian, Russians, Chinese lifters were doing.
In the end all the countless hours reading and researching proved to be a waste of my time. Looking back, I had great Coaches like Conroy, Drechsler, and Takano helping me throughout my Weightlifting career. Unfortunately I was too impatient, especially after my first injury, so I strayed away from the program and started playing with technical maxes on a daily basis. Long story short, I realize that I should’ve enjoyed the process, and listened to what my experienced Coaches had to say. My ego and youth got the better of me and it wasted many years of training. Learn from my mistakes, especially if you’re new to Weightlifting, find a path with your Coach and stick with it, enjoy the process of building strength and technique. While it may take some time, once you’ve built that strong foundation the big weights WILL come, just have patience.
Stay strong,
