I love hearing the meatballs of Weightlifting trying to sound “scientific” and use absolute terms. I’ve been hearing stupid shit like:
“You need to reduce your weight to approximately 50kg and focus on technique for reps of exactly 6”
Where did this “approximate” of weight and reps come from? In the sport of Weightlifting a majority of people are beginners or intermediates and they just need to lift. If you have a talented athlete and the equipement you can get fancy but from my experience the Coachs eye has proven to be far more beneficial. With experience the Coach will be able to decide speed of the bar and recovery to choose a weight that is beneficial for the athlete.
“Your back squat should be 125% of your clean, otherwise you need to work on your leg strength”
As stated above most Weightlifters are new to the sport and they need more reps under the bar. Of course if you’re clean is very close to your front squat you’ll want to focus on increasing your front squat, but because most are lower level athletes, they NEED reps under the bar. To keep it simple you may have one day fully focused on the squat and than do some light hangs to reinforce positioning.
Bottom line, don’t worry about the little things, focus on the big picture that’s glaring at you. If your squat sucks, work on it and still work on your technique, don’t go on some crazy internet BS search on calculation etc… Keep it simple.
“I want to PR in my bench, squat, deadlift, squat clean, jerk, overhead squat, and get super lean. With a concurrent model based on russian physiologists text I can do this.”
That’s all? What about having models as your butler and catering to all your daily needs?
Come on dude, it’s hard enough to get people to train 4 days a week, now you want to be a jack of all trades ALL at once? With a strong laid out program, your general strength movements will go up initially but from there the focus will be now on the lifts (snatch, clean and jerk). Because of this, for most everyday Weightlifters, your total general strength will most likely stay stagnant (your squat may increase a small bit) but most importantly your lifts will go UP! And that’s the name of the game right? No one cares if you can squat 200kg but Clean and Jerk 120kg in the 85kg weight class. So get your priorities straight!
Stay strong,
