The other night I had a great dinner conversation about Weightlifting and learning the basics first before you try to start to implement other forms of “questionable” techniques such as:
- Hopping back
- “Smashing” the bar against your hips
- “Donkey” kicking
- Or the overly popular debated “catapult”
I’ve hammered this down time after time but way too many lifters *ahem (youtubers) are so fixated on what superstar eastern block Chinese formulated magic Coach has done for his lifters and ignorantly avoid the basics.
Learning the basics such as bar control, thigh brush”, first pull, second pull, etc… is your foundation. The bigger the foundation the bigger your potential is. By avoiding this you’re not only being ignorant, you’re also diminishing your potential to develop as a Weightlifter. It also shows the Coach what type of lifter you’ll be…we all know that meathead that’ll come in and train hard for 5-6 months and then disappear. Well don’t be that guy! It’s not about the short game, it’s about long term development.
PR’s will come, stay patient my friends.
