I believe the ‘First Pull’ is too often overlooked, it should get a LOT more respect!
The BASE:
This is your foundation, your second pull, third pull, and squat all rely on this base. If your pull comes off wrong then one of the other movements will have to compensate AND if this is done with a maximal attempt you know that you’re in trouble!
Set Up Key Notes
- Don’t rush your set up: Make sure you feel comfortably in your set up, if not stand up and reset, theres no shame in standing back up to regather yourself. I HATE failed attempts, this is why I preach to my guys to set up everything up right from the START.
- Don’t get all cutesy with your setup: unless you’re Brian Drescher, who’s been lifting for a LONG time and somehow can manage to tell a story while lifting?!
We’ll go into more details down the road, but for now just remember that your first pull is what sets you up for success.
