Lately we’ve been having some platform rule breakers either due to ignorance or plain stupidity so I thought I’d go over a few basic rules that every fitness professional and Weightlifter should know.
1: The Platform…
is meant to absorb force, YES this means you can drop the weight! But only if you have bumper plates loaded, steel plates will tear up the rubber platform and cause significant wear and tear. Yes it will make some noise but as long as you follow the bar down you’re good…remember we are at a GYM not the library.
2: Rest Periods
If you’re resting, don’t start stretching in front of a Weightlifter. You should try to avoid the line of sight when a Weightlifter is about to attempt his lift. Why you ask? It distracts the lifter and you can easily injure yourself or the weightlifter:
While some may say that it teaches you to focus for a competition, this can be true to an extent. But I’d argue that you won’t have a moving object directly in front of you during your lift, so let’s put that to rest. Plain and simple, be respectful to the other lifters.
Here’s great quote from Matt Foreman’s post:
“4-…Weightlifters understand that you’re asking to get kicked in the face if you walk in front of somebody while they’re lifting”
3: Loading
When you’re sharing a bar, how about you help load the weight on and off. Don’t be a dick and worry about your own set.
Stay strong and train smart,
